Ramathaswamy Temple, Rameswaram

In Rameswaram’s Hindu temple I gained some respite from the unrelenting heat. I dawdled the long corridor with pilgrims from all over India. I heard voices echo off the stone walls, smelled the fragrance of garlands and incense, and felt the ripple of stone beneath my feet. Staying in Rameswaram for over a month, I came to know this structure well.

It’s also a setting in a chapter of a manuscript I’m presently editing.
