Sarnath – a quiet corner of India

After the chaos of Varanasi, a rickshaw ride to Sarnath was tonic for the soul. This was where, after attaining enlightenment, Lord Buddha preached his first sermon.

There were few visitors, creating a stillness as if the Buddha himself was still present. I meandered through the grassy reserve to a stupa, a common structure connected to Buddhism enjoying the quiet before the onslaught of Varanasi.
