After a long train journey from Delhi and being inland since leaving Mumbai, I welcomed the coast along the Bay of Bengal.

We stayed at the beach where the waves pounded the sand with a force that sent vibrations through the body. The wind hurled over the sea, bringing the scorching temperatures of Odisha down.

Puri wasn’t a large town back then. We walked most places over sandy lanes and only needed a bus when visiting its famous temple just out of town; the reason for stopping in the beach town.
