Prapat, and an island in the middle of Lake Toba

We stayed over night in Prapat in Central Sumatra before catching an early ferry across to Samosir Island, situated in the middle of the Lake Toba. Half an hour ferry ride seemed luxurious after the arduous long day’s journey of the day before from Bukittinggi.

There was little to do on the island but eat and swim in the clear, calm, bottomless lake. This was a relaxing stay where houses were spread out and people few. We hired bikes and cycled for hours around part of the island but for the most part, we relaxed and swam, soaking up the tranquility.
