Like Singapore, Hong Kong had once been a sampan haven. Now they were a rare sight. In fact, I caught a bus to Aberdeen on the opposite side of Hong Kong Island to enjoy the privilege of a ride in boats that had once been homes for Chinese families.
My sampan sailor wore her traditional clothes to look the part, and she was no spring chicken. We glided along Aberdeen Harbour where other sampans lay anchored, for a short journey back in time.
