Guarded Guayaquil

I’d been warned about Guayaquil and what a dangerous city it was, but I found it the most delightful place. I know, when I walked up the steps in Las Penas and wanted to turn off the beaten track, a police officer, with his gun angled across his chest, advised me not to because it was dangerous. Okay, I stuck to the path guarded by police along the route to be rewarded with a great view of the city as well as a cute church on top.

As an extra bonus, there was a Krishna restaurant. I could finally eat vegetarian after weeks of seafood – not that I mind seafood – but it was the lack of vegetables that made me gush with excitement when I spied Indian food in the city.
