Xlendi, Gozo – a different world

By far one of the most beautiful parts of Malta was on Gozo, the second largest island that makes up a portion of the island nation. My youngest daughter and I took a bus to Cirkewwa where we caught a ferry to Mgarr and a bus to Rabat. We had no idea where to stay until a woman approached and sold us on her hotel in Xlendi.

We couldn’t have lucked out on a better coastal resort. Being winter, it was the off-season, so exploring the cliffs felt as if we were the only ones there. It was hard to stop wandering because of the spectacular views.

We discovered Xlendi tower that had once been used as a lookout when Malta was desired by invaders for its strategic location. Below lay square pools cut into the rocks that were once used as salt pans.
