I had heard of New Zealand’s kauri trees since my school days when we studied New Zealand. Now I was on my way to Waipoua Kauri Forest on New Zealand’s North Island’s west coast.

Unfortunately, only a dozen or so of the giants stood amidst the forest filled with other trees and ferns. Seeing these ancient wonders towering over me, I realised how impressive New Zealand’s forests must have once been until Europeans plundered their wealth.

Love the dappled barks on those kauri trees.
