Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens are on the southern side of the Yarra River, before crossing into the heart of the city. In the distance, Melbourne’s highest buildings peek over the trees but the city is soon forgotten with paths weaving through giant trees.

There’s a pond where you can take a boat ride. There’s a children’s area with running water for eager kids to wade through, sending leaves floating along the watery path.

My favourite section however, is the Australian section with the gums, the Moreton Bay fig trees and that special smell that’s only found in an Australian forest.20141230_164237
