Leaving Changi Airport, I taxied along a six, sometimes eight lane highway where not a scrap of rubbish could be seen amongst the lush trees and flowering shrubs. This was my seventh Singapore visit and I had always enjoyed the cleanliness and orderliness of the city after visiting other Asian destinations. But is Singapore still maintaining those high standards?
While it is still cleaner than any other Asian city, I noticed evidence that the litter police were not as rigid as they had once been. What a pity because I believe fining people for littering everywhere in the world is the only way we’ll control this worldwide problem.

Singapore is a cleaned city, not a clean city. Workers are paid to clean up the rubbish. Nobody else seems to take responsibility for cleanliness.
