Hue’s Imperial City

I crossed over the first moat, then a second with the throngs of tourists into the Purple Forbidden City.

In spite of crumbling walls and sometimes only the outline of buildings remaining, the restored sections displayed the opulence that once housed the past emperors.IMG_1128

One corner housed the emperor’s mother where multiple buildings were enclosed by a wall. I couldn’t help but feel that it was a little over the top for one woman. On the other hand, as I skirted the wall, it appeared to me as if their lives were once conducted in a prison like setting.IMG_1126
