I entered Phat Diem’s gardens and looked up to see those five hundred steps looming towards the sky. When I came to the bottom stony step, I decided to count my way up.
With each hundred, a beautiful landscape stretched out below. Ninh Binh’s striking mountains were surrounded by rice paddy fields that checkered every flat hectare of land.
When I reached the summit, Ngo Dong River meandered from one of the caves on the opposite side of the mountain where there were still boats drifting up stream.
