Lanka’s capital was not a great city. From Pettah Bus Station, it looked pretty grim. But it brightened when I determined this was a city by the sea.
Winding through the old colonial buildings that made up the capital at that time, I reached Galle Face Green where the Laccadive Sea sent a cooling breeze over the tropical coastline.
This was more like it. The only problem was the noise of traffic from the main highway that stretched to the very south of the island. Ah well, that’s the setback with most cities.
