Behind Hikkaduwa were a tea plantations. I cycled along Galle Road then turned away from the sea climbing until I reached hills where verdant trees covered the landscape like a thick green blanket.
I was a tea addict by this time, but still didn’t want to witness close at hand poor Tamil women plucking the top leaves under the over powering sun. Nor did I want to venture to the edge of the plantation to witness the drying process. The lush location was enough.
