I’ve never been one for Canada Day. It’s the connection to Australia Day I grew up with that was celebrated on the day Europeans first arrived to form a settlement on the continent. To Australian Aborigines, it’s Invasion Day, a day of mourning. Having this connection it wasn’t until this year, I attended a Canada Day celebration.

It’s celebrated because it’s the day when different parts of Canada united and perhaps that is something to celebrate – a united front.

Good points Mallee. I was reading a New York Times article on the threat to local demographics posed by immigration, and I was struck by how the unravelling of Native American culture was completely left out. Surprising how we, all of us, can be so selective in our outlook!
