I met a wonderful Tamil family in Trincomalee whom I stayed with. They were the neighbours of the Sinhalese family.
While the uprising did not affect them during that time, I know over a decade later, the burning of Tamil houses, the slaughter and raping of Tamils that occurred in Trincomalee, must have changed this family forever.
I have never forgotten them and often wonder whether they escaped and where they might be today if they managed to still be alive.
