Picasso Exhibition

On the first full day for students back at school, I headed downtown to the Vancouver Art Gallery. The Picasso Exhibition had open earlier, but I chose this day because there’d be fewer people. This much, didn’t disappoint.

One of a few good examples at the exhibition — Woman in Chair (his Jacqueline period)

The write up about each artistic period was revealing. He discarded women throughout his life to be inspired by the next. At the same time, refused to divorce his first wife because he didn’t want to split his wealth.

While the gallery entrance was impressive, I couldn’t say the same about the examples of Picasso’s work. I left with a reality check — many pieces of an artist’s work are not masterpieces. Clearly few at this exhibition were.
