Ujamaa, a Swahili word meaning familyhood, was a political concept introduced by the once president of Tanzania, Julius Neyerere; an ideology inspired by the Israeli kibbutz.20161214_113641

All over town, were carvings representing the Ujamaa village hope of the nation, but the paradigm never took off in the same way as its Israeli cousin, and after a decade, petered out.
