Hot Water Beach

Hot Water Beach, not far north of Tairua on the Coromandel Coast, was where people took a spade to dig in the sand. Once they had a deep enough hole filled with thermal water, they sat and soaked up the warmth.

The day I arrived was close to deserted so that I was able to wander along the beautiful stretch of beach in time with the waves that pounded against the shore.

If you want to avoid paying for parking in this tiny village, take the first exit to the beach out of town. You’ll discover that Hot Water Beach stretches for a considerable distance and you’ll be able to walk the short distance to the well known location.
