While I stayed in Tairua, I decided to drive the twenty or so kilometres to Pauanui and take a walk along the sand dunes above the shoreline.
The sandy beach curved around to South End Reserve while opposite the esturary was Tairua’s twin peaks. To the east was rocky Shoe Island.
