There’s not much that’s free these days, but on a recent visit to Melbourne, I discovered the tram system within the inner city limits, was free.
I could catch a tram at one end of the city and ride even as far as the Melbourne docks without having to pay a cent — rare these days.
I wonder whether it was free because of a special occasion.

It’s because there are a number of tourist attractions around the inner-city and Melbourne is trying to encourage more tourists to visit. Of course once you venture beyond the limit, it’s no longer free.
