The Heidi Modern Art Museum in Bulleen, just outside Melbourne, had a small section on Albert Tucker whose work had a distinct Australian feel. The colours bled of the Australian landscape. From the gum trees, I could almost smell the eucalyptus oozing off the synthetic paint.

If you’re not familiar with Australian animals beyond koalas and kangaroos, you might miss the representation of the common lorikeet whizzing across Tucker’s Armoured Faun (featured photo). The faun has a striking resemblance to Sidney Nolan’s version of Ned Kelly.
