For the past month, Christmas lights have reflected off Lake Lagarge. Last year along the lights trail, it was slippery from ice after an overdose of snow.
This year there’s been little snow, so I’ve hiked the circuit several times. It hasn’t just been the pleasure of the over a kilometre long trail of Christmas lights that brought me back, but the excitement of children.
“Dad, look at the goose,” I heard one child say, pointing to the two swans on the lake. On another not so pleasant occasion, a group of grade fives followed their teacher around the lake. Forgetting the stragglers, the teacher didn’t notice two of his students unscrewing light bulbs! Mmmm, I couldn’t let that pass.

Still haven’t gotten there yet. Soon, though, I hope!
