I decided to head back to a trail I once religiously exercised along near Bulimba Creek. I often trekked the route before six in the morning. After that time, Brisbane’s summers were just too hot.

While squiggly gum trees still lined the path giving off their eucalyptus aroma, there was a lack of magpie larks, or peewees as we called them. Instead ibis seemed to have taken over, not just in Carindale Recreational Reserve where I followed the trail, but I noticed them everywhere in Brisbane
