I lost count of how many times I visited Expo in the eighties. The excitement of displays from around the world was too much to resist. But all that remains along the stretch of the Brisbane River where the site was held, is a pagoda.
Unlike Vancouver where their Expo site was lost to developers, Brisbane created Southbank. There’s a rainforest walkway, restaurants, shops and even a swimming pool set against that forever blue sky.

It’s an ideal spot across from the city centre to relax before a visit to Brisbane’s art gallery a few hundred metres away.
I was a volunteer at Expo. It was great fun. Southbank is wonderful. I will be home soon to enjoy our lovely winter.
