The last building I revisited on UBC’s campus was the First Nation building. I passed over sx whek’wmet (that which is used to remember) or Memorial Drive and walked down the steps and into a different world once I entered the building.
Not only was the exterior of the building impressive, but the carvings and artwork within set the building above and beyond any other on campus.
Before I left, I glanced the framed photos on a wall of previous First Nation students who had passed through UBC successfully. What disappointed me though, was considering the population in and around Vancouver, the number of students wasn’t high — a sign that injustices take generations to overcome.
