Before I left the southern tip of Taiwan, I had to check something with Kenting National Park’s information center. I’d visited the centre when I first arrived, but I was confused because I felt I had missed the national park!

All along the coast were buildings, in fact, over 400 hotels When I’d gone into places the information center recommended, there were still buildings — food and drink stalls, sometimes a restaurant — which didn’t feel like a national park. But I was reassured that I’d been in the national park. This just wasn’t a national park for only forests, lakes, streams and wildlife.
