Manjanggul Lava Tube

There were about 160 lava tubes on Jeju Island. Manjanggul Lava Tube was the biggest at over seven kilometres in length. It was formed between 1 000 to 3 000 years ago when Geomunoreum volcanic crater erupted. Near Manjanggul, four other lava tube caves were formed, but only Manjanggul was open to the public. Hallasan National Park

The Seongpanak Trail was nearly ten kilometres to the top of South Korea’s highest mountain, Mt Hallasan. On the mountain’s peak was Baengnokdam crater lake which was created by volcanic activity. Around the mountain were 368 large oreums (parasitic cones) — the largest number anywhere in the world. Continue reading Hallasan National Park
